Trails End

The day before Thanksgiving we walked the last miles to Mexico, ate some good fajitas and bought some piñatas. That night we sat on a little hill and watched the sun set on this journey and shared things we were grateful for with each other. Much was shared, but the following are our notes of gratitude to the Divine Shepherd who saw us through the 3,000 miles together.



Dear Father-Mother,
Thank you for this perfect day. I cannot think of anything I would rather have done these past six months. Thank you for this trip and everything that has come with it, especially the healings I have experienced and the spiritual growth. I have deepened my understanding of You and how to pray effectively in a listening way.
Thank you for the challenges that have come on this journey – the ones that have stretched and pushed me past my comfort zone. Without them I wouldn't have this feeling of awe that I have at the accomplishment and the newer understanding I have of me, your daughter, your beautiful, whole, perfect, indestructible, and strong child.
Thank you for blessing our family. You have given us the gift of friendship and love, compassion and understanding, joy and laughter, strength and courage.. I can not think of any other people who could have lifted me up and loved me more.

Dear God,
Thank you for giving me the chance to accomplish an adventure as great as this one. Without your guidance on this trip I would have quit and wouldn’t have learned how to stick it out when it gets tough. Through your care I have learned so much about my family, and especially about myself. I learned and experienced things I wouldn’t have been able to do in my regular life back home. Thank you for having me in a family that really cares for and supports me, and also for friends, who support me.

Dear Father Mother,
Thank you for my amazing family and for so spectacularly revealing more of who they are to me on this trip. Thank you for all the evidences I had of your presence through healing – especially when I fell and was injured.
I feel like this trip provided the opportunity to see a greater expanse of beauty and love in the world. The majesty of Your creation is amazing and I’m grateful to have experienced some of the wild and pristine places left on this earth.

To the Divine,
Your promise? “A highway shall be there, a Way, and it shall be called a way of holiness.” (Psalms) Thank you for this way of holiness that you have provided. Easy? Not what you promised. Harmonious always? Not what you promised. Holy? Yes. A way which has challenged, shaped and defined us.
Your commandments are to love You, and others as ourselves. We have learned much as a family about how to do that along this journey. Thank you for keeping us safe, sheltering, loving and lifting us up.
I have loved Your way, and am blessed by this time in your beautiful creation,
